A month ago from this vantage point, there wasn't much to see except thick, dry, and brown vegetation. I noticed the beautiful mountainside for the first time today at this site in Maili. So now what... more houses?
Unfortunately you are probably right. I'm just a haole and I love coming to the islands but I also understand that there has to be a balance somewhere. You don't want an island of houses instead of a tropical paradise. Hawaii is Hawaii for a reason.
