Shadow boxing? Well what about shadow baseball? I cloned out all of the players to get my own idea of what shadow baseball looks like. It looks like a phonograph with dark notes of people.

Built into the Ocean

Behind the chain and lock is the Waikiki Natatorium, an Olympic size pool built into the Pacific Ocean. Although condemned for years due to safety concerns, it was once a place where famous Hawaiian, Duke Kahanamoku used to compete in swimming events.

No Hermit

This crab is no hermit although it is a hermit crab living large in his coconut shell on a deserted island.

Jellyfish

Like yesterday's post, my favorite things to look at are the invertebrates at the Waikiki Aquarium, for their rich color and for their odd forms.

Inverts at the Waikiki Aquarium

Although there are many things to like about the Waikiki Aquarium in Honolulu, my favorite are the invertebrates. The hues are vibrant and as brilliant as if they were Photo shopped. 

On the Catwalk

With her toes on the edge of the catwalk, she paused just long enough for the angelfish to catch a glimpse of her hibiscus-red painted toenails before making a dizzying pirouette back to the beach.

Cool Breeze, Sunshine, Low Humidity

 

Today was a day of cool breeze, sunshine, and low humidity. This is a view of Waikiki from the Ala Wai canal of the kind of weather that we had in Honolulu. 

On a Sunday

On a Sunday afternoon with not a care in the world, these kids were just enjoying life.

Ramen Nakamura

Ramen Nakamura on Kalakaua Ave. is known for their oxtail ramen. Ramen shops in Honolulu have recently become popular and each noodle shop has it's own special soup base. Although oxtail ramen is popular here, I'd recommend the miso ramen any day! Click here to see other photos on facebook.

88 Tees

One hip little t-shirt shops in town is located in Waikiki called 88 Tees. Tucked upstairs off of Kalakaua Avenue, their designs are new, fresh, and unique. Locally made with interesting graphics and reasonably priced, their is a steady stream of foot traffic and buyers. Click here to see other photos of this shop.

Happy Thursday everyone! Not exactly the same but it reminded me of the Mystery Machine on Scooby Doo.

Ilikai 7:45p.m.

Every Friday evening at 7:45p.m. for the past many years, the Ilikai hotel in Waikiki faithfully launches a firework show. In the summer, the beach is packed with families, children, tourists, and surfers who become mesmerized by the booms and the bangs of the rockets that illuminate the sky and  cityscape. The smell of bar-b-que linger and groups of beachgoers bond with food. Tonight, the crowd was sparse and the weather was cool. Perhaps most were indoors at the malls.

Waikiki Natatorium, "Keep Out!"

To the left of these kids is Kaimana Beach and to the right of it is the Waikiki Natatorium. The gate to the pool is locked and the "keep out" signs have been up for years. Built in the 1920's it is the only saltwater Olympic size pool in the U.S. Built in the 1920's it has undergone wear and tear from the natural elements and from use. Thousands of dollars have been dedicated to restore parts of the the natatorium although it is still unfinished and has not been deemed safe by the state. It has gone though many political battles and continues to be up for discussion of whether to tear it down completely or preserve it. It is also a war memorial for those who have died and served in World War I. Many famous Olympic swimmers have competed here in the past and Duke Kahanamoku, the founding father of surfing has competed here as well. Behind me is a one story building that used to be the old World Gym Waikiki in the early 90's. Muscle bound world class wrestlers, strong men competitors, power lifters, pro football players, tourists, students, and even Hawaii's Governor Cayetano visited this open air gym. The view across the Ala Wai canal was an empty lot and around the same time when it relocated, the Convention Center was built and it becoming the new view. Exhibitions, business conventions, dental gatherings, political forums, are held here. The TV series Lost had bits that was filmed at this location as well.
